Brief Summary (from BoatTEST)
The Beneteau Oceanis 45 is designed for people looking for a boat that is versatile and can be used for day sailing, weekending, and long-term cruising. Her cockpit and rigging on deck are well designed and easy to access from the helm if one is short-handed, and the high mainsail sheet block arch keeps movement in the cockpit unhindered and safe. Her spacious feel comes from a hard chine hull design that results in a greater beam with increased space both on deck and below. Keel options allow for further customization depending on the buyers’ homeport and mission.
Observations (from BoatTEST)
While it is common for builders to offer an array of options to customize a boat to an owner’s needs, Beneteau has truly gone above and beyond. While the typical builder offers components in packages, Beneteau allows the owner to select options piece by piece. This allows buyers to get into the best boat for them and their cruising plans. Our advice to buyers is to always go bigger rather than getting a boat that is “exactly” the right size – because too often the “right size” boat ends up being too small. Then, a second boat will be bought. By going bigger first, buyers can avoid the added expense of buying two boats.
